This musical retelling of the classic story of the Ugly Duckling goes far beyond a simple fairy tale. When Ugly (played by Miles Jacoby) hatches from his egg a nerdy, gangly duckling as opposed to his Beatrix Potter siblings, he is scorned by the entire duck yard community, with the exception of his mother (Annelise Wiersema). Even his father, Drake (Daniel Sullivan), and Ida's friend Maureen (Carly Leahy) shun the bird and soon the entire poultry community is rallying against the duckling's differences. The scorned Ugly is soon lured away from home by the sinister cat (TJ Rufo) to be eaten for lunch. The aesthetically challenged duckling manages to get away from the Cat but, on his way home, finds himself lost.
So begins the journey of Ugly as he struggles to find his way home to his mother as she simultaneously searches for him. Meeting characters such as the pretty young swan, Penny (Pamela Charpie), the comic Bullfrog (Andrew Levine), the military commandant goose Greylag (Evan Holownia) and his wife Dot (Julia Schleppi), the domesticated cat Queenie (Kelsey Robbins) and civilized hen, Lowbutt (Lauren Maffeo), Ugly learns all sorts of lessons along the way. With amazing numbers such as "Hold your Head up High", "Warts and All" and "Together", this show is perfect for adults and children alike.
